Today marks a key summertime event happening throughout the region and nationwide that brings residents and public safety officials together for a once-a-year festival of activities for all age groups. National Night Out is scheduled across the area and this year, organizers have introduced new attractions aimed at strengthening the connection between residents and first responders. Police in New Jersey have seized a loaded gun during a routine overnight patrol in which two men were reportedly apprehended - along with crack cocaine and another weapon. Brianne Hailey Killeen has more on a dangerous situation that police were able to intervene safely.

Day three of dangerously hot conditions in the tristate and many are beginning to feel the consequence. With this third day of the current heat wave expected to reach near 100 degrees, health officials are urging people to take heat advisories very seriously.
