WMBCTV: Seeing Life Through the Lens with Local Photographer
From Nutley, New Jersey to New Orleans, Louisiana and beyond… Anthony Buccino has captured the overlooked corners of everyday life in his solo exhibit, “Out & About,” now on display at the West Caldwell Public Library.
“There’s 41 pictures of just about anything and everywhere I’ve ever shot,” said Buccino. “I tend to see a lot of things that people walk by, that’s the whole point of it. We’re all seeing things differently.”
Running through March 31st, the exhibit highlights Buccino’s storytelling approach to photography - an eye shaped by decades as a journalist and editor.
“One of my first cameras was film and for some reason I wasn’t getting any pictures,” said Buccino. “I went into the camera store and he said ‘your roll isn’t even catching on the reel’ so I kinda shot that roll out the window. So I’ve come a long way since that day.”
Buccino’s background includes time at The Belleville Times, Dow Jones, and The Wall Street Journal where he often took his own photos to accompany his reporting. He says that experience continues to influence how he sees the world through the lens.
“I think I got into it when I was working in Jersey City because I would go out everyday at lunch time and just walk along the waterfront. I was at the harborside,” said Buccino. “I was just taking pictures just about everyday at lunch time, weather permitting, shooting seagulls and pigeons. I have pictures from where we used to play football and now it’s condominiums.”
The “Out & About” exhibit is open to the public during regular library hours. For more information about the exhibit, you can visit anthonybuccino.com.
